Vietnam ~ Saigon Day 1
In may 2012, i joined our 4D3N company trip to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). Total is 71 colleagues and divided into 2 groups, Air Asia & Mas Airline Flight. I'm in Air Asia Groups.
Flight hours from KL to Saigon is 2 hours++. Saigon time is late 1 hours from Malaysia time.
We arrive Tan Son Nhat Airposrt around 10am++. Airport waiting area very crowed.
Our tour agency is Le Phong. They picked up us and transfer to Pho-24 (Pho mean noodle). At here we taste their famous food- special VN Beef noodle. But i not eat beef, so i try their chicken noodle. Set meal is noodle + drink is VND 49,000, noodle only VND 39,000.
Vietnamese style coffee filter is unique and enjoyable methods of serving coffee. It is a miniature drip brewer or simple metal filter that delivers a slow-dripping, just pour hot water into filter and left to drip until done. Then enjoy Vietnamese coffee !!!
Notre Dame Cathedral (Roman Catholics)
This Church established by French colonist architecture. The external wall was construct with bricks, bricks are not coated that still preserve their bright red color. It built with the two bell towers and In front have statue of the Lady Queen of Peace (Virgin Mary). Nice building.
Old Saigon Post Office
Opposite of Notre Dame Cathedral is Old Saigon Post Office. This Post Office is a functioning post office and also largest post office in Vietnam. At here offers all kinds of traditional postal services like mailing, selling postcards or stamps. Foreign money exchange and souvenir shops also available.
I sent postcards and the Stamp fee as follow:
Europe - VND 11,500 US - VND 13,500 Asia - VND 10,500
Thong Nhat Conference Hall
This is historic & cultural building in Saigon, total of hundreds of rooms in the palace, each decorated according to its function. We visit the basement , is hot and we sweat a lot even though have standing fan but not help much.
War Remnant Museum
I was impressed and touched with the collections photos and documentation of Vietnam's wars with the both the French and Americans. This museum gives a great lesson in the horrors of war and deliver an important and powerful anti war message to us.
We having dinner at Hong Hai Local seafood Restaurant. Menu : Salad with Fish accompanied with rice paper (Vietnam Style Spring Roll), Grilled squid with green chili, Crab with crispy fried garlic and salty sauce, seafood fried rice, sour and spicy seafood hot pot.
Our Muslim colleagues have their dinner at Halal Saigon Restaurant.
Next stop - Water Puppet Show Theater performed in a waist deep pool. The puppeteers hidden behind the screen and control the puppet. The orchestra and singers also play the important role in this performance. Singer sing songs which tell the story, in Vietnamese so i not really understand the story but i love the traditional music and song.
